Time Horizon Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 4, 2026
Last updated: August 4, 2026
The short version
We care about your privacy. Horizon has no accounts, no servers, and collects nothing. Your data stays on your device.
Who we are
Horizon is published by an independent developer based in the United States. In this policy, "we", "us", "our", and "Horizon" refer to that publisher and to the Horizon app. You can reach us at the contact address below.
What Horizon stores, and where
Horizon reads and writes events through your device's calendar system (Apple Calendar, including any Google or other accounts you've connected to it) and, if you enable the to-do list, your Apple Reminders.
Everything Horizon adds, including event colors, get-ready and travel times, punctuality history, late reasons, daily intentions, medication check-offs, and settings, is stored locally on your device and on your paired Apple Watch, mirrored directly device-to-device. None of it is transmitted to us. We have no servers to send it to.Your calendars may sync through your own Apple or Google accounts, as they did before you installed Horizon. That syncing is governed by Apple's and Google's privacy policies.Device backups
If you have iCloud Backup or encrypted local backups enabled, your device includes Horizon's local data in those backups. Those backups are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy, not by us. You can exclude Horizon from iCloud Backup in your device settings.
Sensitive information
Some of what you may choose to record in Horizon, such as medication check-offs, daily intentions, punctuality history, and late reasons, is personal and health-adjacent. Horizon treats it the same way as everything else: it stays on your device, is never sent to us, and is not written to Apple Health or shared with any other app.
Location
If you enable traffic checks or sunrise and sunset markers, Horizon uses your location, with your permission, to calculate routes and sun times.
Sunrise and sunset times are calculated on your device. Traffic and route checks are not: when you use them, your device sends a starting point and destination to Apple's Maps service, which processes them transiently and returns a route. That exchange is between your device and Apple, under Apple's privacy policy. We do not receive it, and we are not given a copy.Horizon keeps only your most recent coordinates on your device. You can revoke location access at any time in Settings.Notifications and alarms
All reminders, notifications, and alarms are scheduled locally on your device. No notification content leaves it.
Purchases
Subscriptions and purchases are processed entirely by Apple. We receive no name, email, or payment details. We do not use any third-party subscription or analytics service to manage purchases.
What we collect
Nothing. No analytics, no tracking, no advertising identifiers, no third-party SDKs that phone home.
One exception is outside our control: if you have chosen to share analytics and crash reports with app developers in your device's privacy settings, Apple may send us aggregated crash and usage reports. Apple collects that data, not us, and it is governed by Apple's privacy policy. You can turn it off under Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.Your control over Horizon's data
Because nothing leaves your device, there is nothing for us to access, export, correct, or delete on your behalf.
- Delete everything: Deleting Horizon from your device removes all of the data it stored, on both iPhone and Apple Watch.
- Revoke permissions at any time: Calendar, Reminders, Location, and Notification access can each be turned off for Horizon in Settings. Horizon will keep working with reduced functionality.
- Retention: Horizon keeps your entries on your device until you delete them or delete the app. We hold nothing, so we have no retention period.
Your rights under US, Canadian, UK, and Australian privacy law
Horizon is offered in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
Horizon does not send your calendar entries, punctuality history, intentions, medication check-offs, or settings to us. We hold no copy of them, on any system, at any time. This has a practical consequence for your rights under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, Canada's PIPEDA, Quebec's Law 25, the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, and US state privacy laws including the CCPA. Rights of access, portability, correction, and erasure are exercised against whoever holds your data. For everything you enter into Horizon, that is you: the data is on your device, you can read and change it in the app, and deleting the app erases it. There is no request you could send us that we would be able to act on, because there is nothing on our side to retrieve or delete. Two things do leave your device, and neither is held by us:- Route and traffic requests to Apple's Maps service, if you enable traffic checks.
- Crash and usage reports, if you opted in to sharing them with developers in your device settings. These reach us through Apple in aggregate form.
Both are governed by Apple's privacy policy, and requests about them should be directed to Apple. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA, and we do not use it for any purpose other than running the app on your device. We do not disclose any information overseas, because we do not receive any.If you believe your information has been handled improperly, you can contact us at the address below. UK users also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, Canadian users to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, and Australian users to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.Children
Horizon is not directed to children under 13 and is not designed or marketed for them. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children or anyone else. Nothing a younger user entered would reach us, be profiled, or be used for advertising, because none of those things happen to anyone's data.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this page with a new date at the top.

FAQ

Getting startedQ: I opened Horizon and my dial is empty. Where are my events?
Horizon shows the calendars you choose. Tap the calendar button (top right) and make sure the right calendars are selected.
Q: How do I get my Google Calendar to sync?
Horizon reads whatever your phone's calendar system knows about. Add your Google account under Settings → Apps → Calendar → Calendar Accounts → Add Account → Google, make sure "Calendars" is switched on, and your Google events appear automatically. Sharing several Google calendars? Choose which ones sync to your phone at google.com/calendar/syncselect.
Q: Do events I create in Horizon show up in my other calendar apps?
Yes. Horizon writes real calendar events, so anything you add or move syncs everywhere your calendar does.
How the clock worksQ: What are the colored blocks before my event?
That's your lead-in: a get-ready block (red) and a travel block (striped).
Q: What is "Weekly schedule"?
A fast way to enter a repeating shift or class schedule. When adding an event, choose Repeat → Weekly schedule: tap the days you work, set the hours once and Horizon builds the repeating series for you.
Q: What are templates in settings?
Templates pre-fill event settings so you don't configure the same thing twice. There are two kinds:
- Calendar templates - set one on a calendar, and every event added automatically gets that template's get-ready time, travel, color, and reminders. Manual adjustments to individual events will override the default calendar settings.
- Category templates - category templates can be customized for individual event types and will override any default calendar settings. Manual adjustments to individual events will override the category settings.
Q: Why did part of the dial disappear?
Passed time sweeps away. The dial always shows the next 24 hours.
Q: What is a calendar set?
A calendar set is a filter group (Pro) which changes what calendars are currently displayed on the dial face. This is a visual filter only and will not suppress any notifications or alarms from calendars specified on the schedule page.
Q: Why doesn't a calendar (like Birthdays) show up as an option when I'm editing an event?
Some calendars are read-only. This includes Birthdays (generated from your Contacts), holiday calendars, and subscribed feeds which can't have events written to them. They still show on the dial, work in filters.
Q: Why doesn't my all-day event have a countdown?
All-day events have no departure moment, so they get no get-ready or travel block. They show as a note above the dial and a tint on the rim instead.
Q: What happens when I tap "I'm leaving"?
The countdown re-targets to the event itself, remaining reminders for that event stand down, and (if the event has an address) Horizon offers directions. If you were running behind, it may ask one optional question: what got you? Providing a reason is logged in Analytics. No judgment, just info to help shape future planning.
Q: My travel time changed by itself. Why?
That's the traffic check (Pro): shortly before get-ready time, Horizon checks live traffic to your event's address and adjusts any mis-estimated travel block. It only works on events with an address.
Notifications & alarmsQ: What's the difference between reminders and alarms?
Reminders are normal notifications. Alarms (Pro) ring like your morning alarm: full-screen, sound on,
with snooze. Use alarms for the moments you can't afford to ignore: get ready, leaving, waking, meds.
Q: Why didn't Horizon remind me about an event?
Horizon starts quiet on purpose: new and imported events arrive with no buffers, no notifications, and no alarms. To get reminders, turn them on for that event in its editor, or set up a calendar template (Settings → Events) so everything on that calendar comes pre-configured. If an event should be alerting and isn't, check that Horizon has notification permission in Settings and no Focus mode is silencing it.
Q: Why does the leave alarm ring 2 minutes before my travel time?
A feature, not a bug. A small head start between "alarm" and "actually walking out the door."
Apple WatchQ: The watch app says "Open Horizon on your iPhone once to sync."
The watch mirrors your phone, so the phone app needs to have run recently. Opening the watch app asks the phone for fresh data automatically; give it a few seconds. If a wedge looks stale after you moved an event, it refreshes within a minute.
Q: Notifications arrive on my phone, not my watch.
That's how iOS works for all apps: notifications only mirror to the watch when the phone is locked. If your phone is unlocked, the phone gets the banner.
Privacy & dataQ: Where is my data stored?
On your device. Horizon has no accounts, no servers, and collects nothing. Your events live in your own calendar, and everything Horizon adds (colors, buffers, history) stays local. Deleting the app deletes Horizon's data; your calendar events are untouched.
Q: What does Horizon do with my location?
Only two things, both optional: live traffic checks and sunrise/sunset markers. Requests go transiently through Apple's Maps services; Horizon never stores your location anywhere but on your device, and there's no server to send it to.
SubscriptionQ: What's free and what's Pro?
The core clock is free forever: the dial, get-ready and travel lead-ins, countdowns, widgets, and reminders. Pro adds the lock-screen live countdown, real alarms, traffic checks, to-dos, sleep schedule, self-care, analytics, filtering, and the watch extras.
Q: What's the difference between the subscription and Lifetime?
Same features. Subscriptions bill monthly or yearly (with a 7-day free trial); Lifetime is one purchase, yours forever, no renewal. If subscriptions aren't your thing, that one's for you.
Q: I got a new phone. How do I restore Pro?
It follows your Apple Account automatically. If it doesn't appear, tap Restore Purchases on the paywall.
Q: Will my settings survive a new phone?
If you transfer or restore from a backup, yes! Everything comes along. If you set the new phone up from scratch, your events and Pro purchase return automatically, but Horizon's local touches (buffers, colors, history) start fresh.
